Double Bed Frames
How big is a double bed frame?
A standard double bed is usually 135cm (53 inches) wide and 190cm (75 inches) long. Bear in mind that the bed may extend over those estimates because of the frame round the edge and the headboard. We always advise you check the sizes of each double bed frame — the size will be listed on the product page. There are also small double beds available that measure 120cm wide (48 inches) by 190cm (75 inches). These are great for smaller sized bedrooms. You could also choose an ottoman double bed to help save space.
What do I need to look for when choosing a double bed frame?
With an extensive range of double bed frames in a range of styles and materials, it can be hard to decide. You’ll want to consider things like the space you have available in your room. You could try marking out the dimensions on the floor with masking tape. You’ll want to make you have about 50cm of free space around the bed so that you can walk around easily. Then you’ll want to consider the style of your double bed frame. Whether you’re furnishing a traditional space or a more contemporary room, our beautiful range of wooden oak and painted bed frames will complement any interior style. Remember, a good quality bed frame will give you the space, support and comfort you need to get a proper night’s rest.
How long do double bed frames last?
The lifespan of your bed frame can be affected by a variety of different factors — the quality of the bed frame, how much use it gets, how well the bed is cared for and factors like the weight and number of people using the bed. Generally, you should ideally replace your bed frame at least once every ten years. The Sleep Council recommend you replace your mattress every seven years although, if it’s starting to feel less comfortable than it used to, it might be time for a replacement.
A good bed frame is a valuable investment. We recommend spending as much as you can afford on a new bed, as a lot of our lives will be spent in bed getting that well-needed rest and restoring our bodies ready for the following day.
