Are G Plan based in the UK?

All G Plan sofas and chairs are lovingly handcrafted in the UK by a team of talented craftspeople. G Plan’s roots go back to 1898 when Ebenezer Gomme, a pioneering chair maker, started a family business from his workshop crafting quality furniture for British homes.

His grandson, Donald Gomme, went on to start a new kind of furniture company in 1953 – one that set the standard for quality, innovation, and great design. G Plan has been a benchmark for British furniture ever since.

After the war, G Plan furniture helped rebuild Britain. The last eight decades have been dedicated to perfecting the art of sofa and chair making. They go to great lengths to source the highest-quality fabrics and premium leathers so your G Plan sofa will stay looking beautiful and feeling comfortable for years to come.

How do I check that my G Plan sofa is real?

Although the label may have changed over the years, every G Plan sofa and chair will have a unique G Plan label – this is the best way to tell if your G Plan sofa is the real deal. For pieces produced between 1952 and 1960, lookout for a golden stamp that says ‘E Gomme, High Wycombe’ with a bold EG in the middle. From 1965 to 1975 the label was red with a large ‘G’ and the word ‘Plan’ smaller in the middle. Between 1985 and 1990, the label was changed to red and gold and between 1990 and 1992 the label included a gold border. Since 1992, the G Plan label is red with a white ‘G’ and smaller ‘Plan’ sat on the arm of the G.

Are G Plan and Parker Knoll the same brand?

G Plan and Parker Knoll are different brands. However, in 2005 G Plan was acquired by Sofa Brands International who are home to five other unique sofa brands – Parker Knoll, Duresta, Collins & Hayes, The Lounge Co., and Living Proof.
